Mykiara Jones, Land of Illusion Waterpark, Aqua Adventures, Drowning, Wrongful Death

Family of Mykiara Jones Retains Walton + Brown, LLP. To Investigate Her Death

August 31, 2021 - The Family of Mykiara Jones demands answers after Mykiara died in a tragic drowning incident at Land of Illusion’s waterpark, Aqua Adventures, in Madison Township near Middletown, Ohio. The family has retained Attorneys Sean L. Walton and Chanda L. Brown to investigate the circumstances that led to her death. Mykiara was an amazing child who lived by the motto ‘Do your best every day’ and who loved school and loved learning. She would have been a freshman at Middletown High School this school year.

Butler County dispatchers say they received reports at about 5pm on July 20, 2021, that a 14-year-old girl went into the water at an amusement park, and never came back up. A lifeguard eventually pulled Mykiara from the water, however 30-40 minutes passed before she was rescued. She was taken to Dayton Children’s Hospital via helicopter, where she was pronounced dead.

Since her death, the Butler County Sheriff’s Office has been “inundated with complaints towards” the water park, according to Butler County Sheriff Richard Jones. “There are a wide range of complaints insinuating the Aqua Adventures Park has violated various regulations,” the sheriff’s office said in a statement. “The complaints allege the park does not have certified lifeguards, life vest rules are not enforced, and no rescue equipment is readily available, among others.”

While the park claims to be working with local and state investigators, Walton + Brown, LLP. will be investigating Mykiara’s death as the family seeks to ensure that no one else suffers through such a preventable tragedy again. “Mykiara has been described as a one-of-a-kind gem.” says Sean Walton, partner at Walton + Brown, LLP. “While her bubbly and infectious personality will leave a profound mark on this world, it is our mission to ensure that her death is not in vain. Just five hours before she drowned, an anonymous caller voiced a safety complaint to the Butler County General Health District, amongst numerous other complaints against Land of Illusion. This tragedy is unjustifiable and Mykiara should still be here. Land of Illusion must be held accountable for failing to provide a safe environment for children, and venues such as this must be held to the very highest standards of safety and care.”

The family asks that any witnesses with information about this incident or others involving Land of Illusion come forward and contact their attorneys at 614-636-3476 or info@waltonbrownlaw.com.
