Family of Henry Green Retains Walton + Brown, LLP To Investigate His Shooting Death By Columbus, Ohio Police Officers on June 6, 2016
The Family of Henry Green has retained Attorneys Sean L. Walton and Chanda L. Brown of Walton + Brown, LLP. to investigate his shooting death. Green was shot and killed by plainclothes Columbus Division of Police Officers who were working in Mayor Andrew Ginther’s Community Safety Initiative.
The Community Safety Initiative is described as a program designed to prevent crime in the summer months, by increasing the number of patrol officers and targeting “hot spot” areas. Formerly known as the “Summer Strike Force,” the initiative placed Officers Jason Bare and Zachary Rosen in an unmarked vehicle and in plainclothes while on patrol duty in the South Linden area. Officers Bare and Rosen allege they saw Green standing on the corner holding a gun. They allege that they approached Green, identified themselves, asked him to drop his weapon and that he then opened fire on the two officers. Numerous witness accounts are in direct conflict with the officer’s version of events.
The family of Henry Green has retained Attorneys Walton and Brown to ensure that the investigation into his tragic death is conducted in a manner that ensures fairness and truth.
“We are fighting for transparency in the investigation of this senseless killing. The Columbus Police Department has presented their version of this story as factual. They have already made it very clear that they cannot conduct a fair and unbiased investigation into this killing by their own officers. We are calling for an investigation into this matter by the Department of Justice, and we are asking that a Special Prosecutor be appointed to oversee the decision on whether to indict the officers in this shooting. The City of Columbus, Columbus Division of Police and Franklin County Prosecutor’s Office should step aside and allow a transparent, unbiased and independent investigation into the circumstances of this case due to the clearly biased statements that are already on the record from the Columbus Division of Police.” – Attorney Sean L. Walton
Walton + Brown, LLP is currently conducting their own investigation into the circumstances of this shooting and will be addressing the media along with the family at 3:30 pm on Wednesday, June 15, 2016 at the Walton + Brown LLP law office, 20 S. Third Street, Suite 210, Columbus, OH 43215.
“The Mayor’s Community Safety Initiative is troublesome. If they are targeting certain areas and calling this a trust-building effort between the community and the police, then placing armed officers in unmarked vehicles and in plainclothes and allowing them to aggressively patrol neighborhoods does not build trust. Immediately placing blame on the shooting victim and putting out an official statement of the events that has not been backed sufficiently does not build trust. Failing to interview the numerous witnesses who discredit the officers’ version of the events does not build trust. The City of Columbus has failed this community by authorizing this “Summer Strike Force” on its residents and we are asking that they hold the Division of Police accountable by standing by us in calling for a fair and independent investigation. “– Chanda L. Brown
