Tyre King, Henry Green, Columbus Police Department

Families of Tyre King and Henry Green Address Police Shootings

The families of Tyre King and Henry Green, both shot and killed by Columbus police officers, will address the media about their recent killings. The press conference will be held September 27th at 2 p.m. at the Columbus Urban League, 788 Mt. Vernon Ave., Columbus, OH 43203.

Tyre King was killed by Columbus Division of Police Officer Bryan Mason on the evening of September 14, 2016 after being shot three times. King’s death occurred shortly after Mason had been assigned to patrol the area.

Henry Green was shot and killed by Columbus Division of Police Officers Jason Bare and Zachary Rosen on June 6, 2016 after being accused of openly carrying a gun. Green’s death occurred shortly after the commencement of the Summer Safety Initiative, a Columbus Police Department program intended to reduce violence in “high-crime” areas in the summer months.

In both cases, witness accounts contradict police accounts. The police accounts were released to the public before full investigations took place. The Columbus Division of Police is investigating the deaths of both Henry Green and Tyre King. The results of both investigations will be presented to a grand jury by Franklin County Prosecutor Ron O’Brien.

The families of both Tyre King and Henry Green continue to request full, thorough and independent investigations by an outside law enforcement agency and are requesting that the Columbus Police Department and the Franklin County Prosecutor’s Office remove themselves from any involvement in the investigations.
